Saturday Academy
This is the monthly reminder about Saturday Academy. This is a four hour school day that TK – 8th graders can participate in and use to make up an unverified, unexcused, or excused absences. The benefit of this is students will not have an absence on their record and the school district will get paid for the day the student wasn’t in school (every day a student is not in school, the school district does not get paid unless they are on independent study).
This is totally voluntary on the part of the student and family. However, the Saturday Academy may also be used as a consequence for 6th-8th graders who have inappropriate behaviors at school and that is not voluntary.
The next Saturday Academy is September 21st at Pleasant Valley School of Engineering and Arts, 700 Temple Avenue, Camarillo CA 93010.
Here are steps to participate in Saturday Academy:
- You must register your child by Friday, September 13th. You may register here.
- On the Wednesday prior to Saturday Academy, teachers will be given a list of students who are attending Saturday Academy. If your student has registered to attend, and they have work to make up, the teacher will make sure they have it by Friday.
- On the Friday prior to Saturday Academy, your child will bring home the master agreement that needs to be filled out and signed, the Saturday Academy rules, and the name and address of the school where Saturday Academy is to be held.
- On Saturday, students who are registered for Saturday Academy need to arrive prior to 8:00 with their materials, fully charged Chromebook, and a book to read. Their ticket into Saturday Academy is the signed master agreement.
- A snack lunch will be available during the 20 minute break. Students may also bring their own snack but must only eat during the break.
- Parents are responsible to pick up their child promptly at 12:00 pm
